Thinking in the past

Was fascinated by the movie 'Padala Bhairavi' in childhood and hence bought the DVD of it in Madurai this time around

Fascinated by the way movie was taken and the special effects.. Though there are too many songs, they gelled with the movie very well and comedy too.

But one thing that enthralled me was the way people stopped unnecessary conversation and the way movie ended.

When the hero's friend was talking too much, the madam tells him to stop this way..
'dei, unakku punniyama pogum..konja neram pesarathi niruthada.....' just compare it was what is said nowadays 'savu girakki, niruthammattae......vanthutanungo'

When the movie ended, the hero's friend requests the Goddess that appears to bless all the people and their families who watched the movie..What a nice gesture. You don't hear even 'jana gana mana' at the end of movie nowawdays

Madurai Trip -Jottings

Long time after (after nearly 3 weeks ) I wanted to go to Madurai to see my son and daughter. I was ridiculed and challenged by JAWAMAN and even had a bet.

I planned to leave office by @3PM so that I can start early for Madurai. But, as usual when I wanted to leave office early, I got some work that takes hours together to complete. So I could start only at 10PM from my house (came home by 7PM) to Madurai

The week end went very fast.. :( Applied leave on Monday to spend time with my daughter and son.:)

To make this post more interesting some statistics;

1. Perungalathur - Kochadai (an area like beasant nagar or adayar in Madurai where my in-laws have house) is exactly 435 kms and could be reached in 6.5 hours with one 15 minute break
2. It takes 2.5 hours to cover 140 kms b/w Madurai -Trichy just becos the road is very bad near Trichy and Melur-ViraliMalai-Thuvarankurichi-Kottampatti four lane road is under construction and there are lot of diversions
3. The flyovers are amazing... near Perambalur, Thozhuthur.
4. There 5 toll plazas and only 3 of them are operational. The costliest toll paid is Rs 50. Total toll paid was Rs 85.
5. Don't eat in Hotel Sangeetha in Trichy. Too much a crowd and waiting time is more than 20-25 mins for getting a place to sit. Once seated the food is served immediately but it is not good
6. you can see lot of Tata ACE JUMBO plying in this road even in nights. I counted 100 of them till Madurai on the GST Road

I am off to Madurai this week end also but by Train though!!!

Ask me if you have to go to passport office!!!

My passport is expiringon 18th july 2009. I have to renew this as my office 'may send ' me to any country any time and passport is very mandatory. I can live in office without food or water but PAN and passport are mandatory.

Part of the mistake lies in me, though I have been getting reminder mails from office systems that my passport is expiring in 180 days, 90 days and 60 days but I chose to give least priority as i was completely occupied in office work.

When the D-Day was near, I finally had to give importance to renewal also. So
I applied thru passport link online in the url so that I can finish the renewal process in max 2-3 hours. I booked the slot and got an appointment @11:15AM on 16th JULY 2009. But fate had other plans.

On 15th evening, I was going thru documents that were required for submission and I found one important document (affidavit by notary) had to be attached. I started panicking. I called one of my friend in Perungalathur and asked him if he knows any notary. And since he bought a flat recently, he guided to one person who can get the notary sign. The person introduced typed the affidavit and told that notary was available only in the morning. I did not sleep properly on 15th night.

I got all documents photocopied in duplicate on 15th evening and arranged in an order. I had originals arranged in the same order as well.

Woke up @6AM on 16th JULY 2009. Waited for the clock to strike 7 to go to Notary's house. Went to notary's house @7AM and after due formalities, the affidavit was signed.

Took 2 copies of the same. Started for passport office @9AM

Did I say anything about breakfast or coffee? NO right? I forgot to take coffee or breakfast as well.

I reached passport office @9:45AM and saw a big queue even for tatkal. The appointment for those folks were 10AM. Saw people who had appointment @11:45AM as well. So stood in the queue that consisted of around 30 folks.

It took the security to allow me to go to the counter @11:15AM. When I was in queue, arranged the photocopies of documents (like address proof, educational proof, company id,etc) and self attested the same.

I stood in the darshan (?)queue. There was mayhem there..literllay no security either at the application verification counter or at billing counter.. Added to that was 'AGENTS'.

Waited, waited and waited... at 12:40PM, it was my turn to give the application for verification. The guy looked at the application form and at me... He did not ask me any questions.. he said 'get PISOD from room no 4'.

(PISOD is nothing but passport verification mechanism for outstation passports. Since the passport I had was issued at BLR in 1999, PO wanted verification)

There was another queue..though not so long ...I spent 15 minutes to get PISOD checked.. Returned to the main queue.........

ALAS, there was huge shouting from others in line saying that I was jumping line...I had to explain them that I had to get one PISOD checking and cannot stand in the queue again..the time was 12:55PM. My application was verified and I moved to the billing counter immediately to pay the fees..Fortunately there were few people in that queue.

Did I not tell you there were applications from AGENTS in the mean time(out of queue) which was promptly verified!!!, money speaks)

The counters close at 1:15PM for lunch and I had to complete the submission by then..I was racing against time ...my stomach started churning..nothing....( I did not even drink water from the morning...)

The lady at the billing counter asked me to bring DD as they cannot accept Cash payments for TATKAL applications. Ran to the AXIS bank counter nearby and got the DD by 1:05PM.

When I returned the counters were empty and all have left for lunch :(

I was tired... thirsty......hungry........started walking slowly to the ground floor...I saw a canteen and bought water and juice bottle..slowly emptied the entire contents of water bottle and juice bottle..I knew that I cannot leave outside for lunch...after all it was going to be another 30 minutes wait
(the official lunch time mentioned is 1:15PM to 2PM).

Went inside the office and behold...the queue was still there waiting at the empty counter............... Not wanting to be left alone, I stood in the queue...Time was ticking..The clock struck 2 but the staff at the counters were not to be seen.the proverbial 'vazhi mael vizhi vaithuiruthu' happened...Finally when they came it was 2:30PM. My application was accepted at 3PM.

The moment I got the receipt, my legs started shaking and I was feeling giddy...I wanted to go to my sis house by auto and have lunch there.. (as it was AADi month birth, I cannot eat outside food since it may contain Onion). My BIL advised me to get into BUS till ADAYAR where he will pick up as the AUTO charge will be 200RS against bus charge of Rs 6. (max). Got into 29C and I dozed off till Adayar. Had my lunch and got my life back...........

Spent nearly 7 hours in PO office even with tatkal appointment..Do not know the purpose of tatkal and online booking, appointment etc

Have some questions though!!!

1. What is the purpose of submitting an application thru online? Still I had to wait
2. What is the purpose of giving an appointment time? (you know the complete story)
3. Why there is no security to control the crowd near the verification counter?
4. It is stated the person has be 'in person' for TATKAL applications. How is it possible for AGENTS to submit teh application (both sideways and straight)
5. Why there is no mention of PISOD in the help or checklist or 'to do' anywhere (either in application form or checklist or brochure or online)
6. Why PO cannot accept Credit Card payments? Why they insist on DD payments?
7.Why there is first level verification of the applications? I have seen people asked to bring some more documents
8. ETC........
